Why rent camping gear instead of buying it

A decent four-season tent and two sleeping bags will cost more than the whole rest of your trip to Kashmir. If you camp twice a year, renting is straightforwardly cheaper — and it is far less to carry on a flight.

It also solves the altitude problem. A sleeping bag that is fine in Srinagar is not enough at a high camp above Sonmarg, where nights drop below freezing even in July. Renting means matching the bag to where you are actually sleeping, rather than to what you happen to own.

Gear for the Kashmir treks

Most of our gear goes out with people walking the Kashmir Great Lakes, Tarsar Marsar or Gangabal routes. Those are high, cold, and often wet — we stock to that standard rather than to a summer-festival standard.

If you are on an organised trek, check what your operator provides before renting. Many include tents and sleeping bags but not mats, poles or a warm enough bag for the high camps.

Common questions

How much does it cost to rent camping gear in Kashmir?

Individual items start at ₹100 a day for a sleeping mat and ₹150 for a sleeping bag. Tents run from ₹299 a day for a two-person up to ₹699 for a six-person. A complete two-person kit — tent, bags, mats, stove and cook set — is ₹899 a day.

Do you deliver camping gear to the trailhead?

Yes. We deliver to Sonmarg and Pahalgam for a distance-based fee, which saves carrying gear from Srinagar if you are travelling up by shared taxi. Tell us your start point and time when you book.

Is a deposit required for camping gear?

Yes, refundable, and it varies with the value of what you take. It can be paid in cash, by UPI or by card, and it is returned when the gear comes back. Nothing is withheld without photographs of the damage.

How warm are your sleeping bags?

We stock two ratings: -5°C bags for valley and lower campsites, and -15°C bags for high camps on the Great Lakes and Tarsar Marsar routes. Tell us your route and we will match the bag to it.

Can I rent camping gear and a motorcycle together?

Yes, and it is the most common booking we take. We fit the gear to the bike at collection so you leave with everything packed and secured rather than working it out at the roadside.
