Organised camping trips in Kashmir

Nomad runs all-inclusive camping trips in Kashmir at Pahalgam, Sonmarg and Gulmarg. Tents, bedding, meals and transport from Srinagar are handled, so you arrive at a pitched camp rather than setting one up. Overnight and multi-day trips run through the summer, with winter snow camping at Gulmarg from December.

Where we camp

Pahalgam, along the Lidder valley, is the easiest — river-side pitches, forest, and short walks from camp. Good for families and first-time campers.

Sonmarg sits higher and colder, with the Thajiwas glacier close by. It is the best of the three for scenery and the start point for the Great Lakes route.

Gulmarg works in both seasons: meadow camping in summer, and snow camping from December for people who want the harder version.

What is included

A pitched tent with proper bedding, all meals cooked at camp, transport from Srinagar and back, and a camp host who stays with the group. You bring clothes and a sense of humour about the weather.

If you would rather do it yourself, we rent the whole kit instead — see camping gear rental. Plenty of people take a bike, a tent and a stove from us and find their own spot.

Common questions

Where can you camp in Kashmir?

Pahalgam along the Lidder valley, Sonmarg near the Thajiwas glacier, and the Gulmarg meadows are the three we run. All are within a few hours of Srinagar and accessible by road.

Is camping in Kashmir safe?

At established campsites with an operator, yes — these are ordinary tourist areas with regular visitors. The real considerations are weather and cold rather than anything else. Our safety guide covers this honestly.

Can you camp in Kashmir in winter?

Yes, at Gulmarg from December through February, with the right equipment. It is genuinely cold and not a first camping trip — but it is spectacular, and we provide four-season tents and -15°C bags for it.

Do I need my own camping equipment?

Not for an organised trip — tents and bedding are provided. If you would rather camp independently we rent everything you need, from a two-person tent at ₹299 a day to a complete kit at ₹899.
