Why this bike for Kashmir
The Himalayan was built for exactly this. Long-travel suspension, a 21-inch front wheel and 220 mm of ground clearance are what the Zojila approach and the broken sections towards Drass actually ask for.
It is not fast and it is not meant to be. What it does is carry you and forty kilos of luggage over surfaces that would rattle a Classic apart, at a pace that lets you look at where you are.
Before you take one to Leh
Zojila is the constraint, not the bike. The pass closes for weather and for convoy movement, sometimes at short notice, and the season runs roughly May to October depending on the year.
Talk to us about timing before you book. We will tell you honestly if the plan is unrealistic — we would rather lose the booking than have you stuck at Sonmarg with a closed road and a bike you are paying for.
Altitude is the other one. Zojila is above 3,500 m and it climbs fast from Sonmarg. Do not attempt it on the first day of your trip.
Is it too heavy?
At around 199 kg it is a substantial machine, and the seat is tall. If you are shorter than about 5'6" it is worth sitting on one before committing — come to the store and try it, there is no obligation.
For riders who find it too much, the Hero Xpulse 200 at ₹1,300 a day is lighter and easier on rough road, at the cost of comfort over long distances.

No limit on hires of three days or more. Shorter hires carry a daily allowance, which we will tell you at booking. Distance is checked against the odometer at handover and return.
What licence do I need for a Himalayan?
An MCWG class on your Indian licence — motorcycle with gear. An LMV car licence does not cover it. Foreign visitors need an International Driving Permit alongside their national licence.
